The Canadian Ski Patrol is a registered non-profit corporation comprising of highly-trained volunteer and professional members.  The System is national in scope and was formed to promote safe skiing and snowboarding, as well as to provide assistance to injured skiers/snowboarders.  The CSPS's membership of more than 6000 patrollers provides a Canada-wide, highly-skilled and responsible service to the skiing and snowboarding industry.

Although the Patrol is most widely recognized for its handling of accident victims, it is safe to say that at least half of the CSPS activities are in the area of accident prevention.

History of Kokanee Zone

In 1986, the Whitetooth ski hill was born.  It was built by a group of people, amongst them a former ski patroller from the east (Batoche) who was very instrumental in getting it going and seeing it through the next 14 years.  Mike McKnight and his wife Merle worked very hard on the project, as they do on other projects.

In 2000, the Whitetooth ski area was sold and became what is now "Kicking Horse Mountain Resort".  These people erected a gondola to the top of the mountain where they built a beautiful restaurant.  Presently, they are working hard to develop a "village" at the base.  The skiing, snowboarding and scenery are out of this world!

The Whitetooth ski patrol was started by Norm Turner, an active mountain man, who had patrolled in the US as well as Lake Louise.  He joined the Fairmont ski patrol when Whitetooth was born.

Today, we work well with the paid patrollers and are developing a top notch safety patrol.
